- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup sourdough starter
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 cup milk
- 2 large eggs
- 1/4 cup melted butter
- Oil for frying
- Sugar and cinnamon for coating
Instructions
- Mix together the flour, sugar, salt, baking powder, baking soda, and cinnamon in a large bowl.
- Combine the sourdough starter, milk, eggs, and melted butter in another bowl.
- Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined.
- Heat oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 350°F (175°C).
- Drop spoonfuls of dough into the hot oil, frying until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side.
- Remove the doughnuts and drain them on paper towels.
- Toss them in a mixture of sugar and cinnamon while still warm.
- Serve immediately for maximum warmth and joy.
Notes
These doughnuts are best enjoyed fresh, but you can store any extras in an airtight container for up to two days.
