Description

Delightful doughnuts made with sourdough discard, crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. Perfect for cozy family gatherings.


Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup sourdough starter
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/4 cup melted butter
  • Oil for frying
  • Sugar and cinnamon for coating

Instructions

  1. Mix together the flour, sugar, salt, baking powder, baking soda, and cinnamon in a large bowl.
  2. Combine the sourdough starter, milk, eggs, and melted butter in another bowl.
  3. Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  4. Heat oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 350°F (175°C).
  5. Drop spoonfuls of dough into the hot oil, frying until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side.
  6. Remove the doughnuts and drain them on paper towels.
  7. Toss them in a mixture of sugar and cinnamon while still warm.
  8. Serve immediately for maximum warmth and joy.

Notes

These doughnuts are best enjoyed fresh, but you can store any extras in an airtight container for up to two days.
