Description

Rich and fudgy brownies made with sourdough starter discard, perfect for a cozy treat.


Ingredients

  • 1 cup sourdough starter discard
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/3 cup cocoa powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×9-inch baking pan.
  2. Combine the melted butter and sugar in a large mixing bowl, whisking until smooth.
  3. Add the eggs and vanilla extract, blending until creamy.
  4. Stir in the sourdough starter discard until fully incorporated.
  5. Sift together the flour, cocoa powder, and salt in another bowl.
  6. Gradually mix the dry ingredients into the wet mixture, folding gently until just combined.
  7. Fold in chocolate chips if desired.
  8. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and spread it evenly.
  9. Bake for 20-25 minutes, checking for doneness with a toothpick.
  10. Allow to cool before slicing into squares for serving.

Notes

These brownies taste even better the next day. Can be stored for up to a week in the fridge.
