Description

A simple and comforting recipe for homemade white bread, perfect for sandwiches or toast.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/2 cups warm water (110°F to 115°F)
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted

Instructions

  1. Combine the warm water, sugar, and yeast in a mixing bowl. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
  2. Mix the flour and salt in a large bowl.
  3. Make a well in the center and add the yeast mixture and melted butter.
  4. Mix until a dough forms, then knead for about 8-10 minutes until smooth.
  5. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1-2 hours or until doubled in size.
  6. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  7. Punch down the dough, shape it into a loaf, and place it in a greased loaf pan.
  8. Cover and let it rise for another 30 minutes.
  9. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped.
  10. Allow to cool before slicing.

Notes

You can prepare the dough a day in advance and let it rise overnight in the fridge. Use a serrated knife to slice when cooled.
