Description

A delightful appetizer log combining sweet candied bacon and tangy goat cheese, perfect for gatherings and cozy evenings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pack thick-cut turkey bacon
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 tablespoon water
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 1 baguette
  • Olive oil
  • Salt and pepper
  • 4 or 8-ounce log of goat cheese
  • Maple syrup (or honey, or hot honey)

Instructions

  1. Begin by placing an oven rack in the center row and preheating your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
  2. Line a large, rimmed baking sheet with aluminum foil or parchment paper. Place an oven-safe baking rack on top of the foil in the pan.
  3. Mix together brown sugar, black pepper, water, and cayenne pepper in a small bowl.
  4. Lay the turkey bacon slices on your prepared sheet pan in a single layer. Coat both sides of the bacon with the brown sugar mixture, pressing it into the bacon.
  5. Place the tray of bacon in your oven on the center rack and bake for about 15 minutes. Flip slices and continue baking for an additional 10-15 minutes until crispy.
  6. Remove the spicy candied turkey bacon from the oven and transfer to a paper towel-lined plate to cool.
  7. Raise your oven temperature to 425 degrees Fahrenheit.
  8. Slice the baguette into 1/2 inch pieces, arranging them cut-side down on a foil-lined cookie sheet.
  9. Brush the tops of the bread with olive oil, then sprinkle with salt and pepper.
  10. Bake the crostini in the preheated oven’s center rack for 7-10 minutes until crispy and golden brown.
  11. Take them out and let them cool for 30 minutes before using.
  12. Start by placing the goat cheese log on your serving dish.
  13. Break the cooled turkey bacon into small pieces and press them into the goat cheese log.
  14. Scatter some bacon around the base of the cheese for guests to scoop up.

Notes

Make bacon and crostini a day ahead and assemble just before serving for freshness. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 days.
