Description
A savory and comforting Philly cheesesteak sandwich featuring tender beef, gooey provolone cheese, and caramelized onions, all nestled in a soft hoagie roll.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 lbs beef (partially frozen bottom round roast)
- 1 onion
- 6 footlong bread rolls
- 10 slices provolone cheese
- 1/2 Tbsp baking soda
- 2 Tbsp vinegar
- 1 Tbsp sugar
- 1 Tbsp garlic salt
- 1/2 Tbsp onion powder
- 2 tsp black pepper
- 1 tsp salt
- 2 cups of water
- 1 Tbsp Worcestershire sauce
Instructions
- Prep the beef: Slice the partially frozen bottom round roast into very thin strips. Aim for about 1/8 inch thick.
- Marinate the beef: In a large bowl, combine the sliced beef with the baking soda, vinegar, sugar, garlic salt, onion powder, black pepper, salt, Worcestershire sauce, and water. Let marinate for about 15-20 minutes.
- Sauté the onion: In a skillet over medium-high heat, add oil and sauté the sliced onion until golden and caramelized, about 5-7 minutes. Set aside.
- Cook the beef: In the same skillet, add the marinated beef along with the liquid. Cook over medium-high heat for about 8-10 minutes, ensuring the beef is cooked through.
- Melt the cheese: Layer the provolone cheese over the cooked beef in the skillet and cover until the cheese is melted.
- Assemble the sandwiches: Cut the rolls in half and fill each with the cheesy beef mixture and caramelized onions.
- Serve: Enjoy your Philly cheesesteaks warm, with a side of crispy fries or salad.
Notes
Meal prep by marinating the beef overnight for deeper flavor. You can customize with different cheeses or toppings.
