Description

Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups chocolate chips (plus extra for topping)
  • Flaky sea salt (optional, for finishing)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the dough: In a large bowl, whisk together the melted butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until smooth and glossy. Add the egg, egg yolk, and vanilla extract, mixing until creamy and well combined.
  2. Combine dry ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, and salt. Gradually fold the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just combined. The dough should be soft and slightly thick.
  3. Add the chocolate: Fold in the chocolate chips, making sure they’re evenly distributed throughout the dough. Reserve a few chips to press on top later.
  4. Chill the dough: Cover and chill the dough for at least 30 minutes to create thicker cookies with a rich, chewy texture.
  5. Shape the cookies: Scoop large portions of dough and roll into balls. Place them on a lined baking sheet, leaving space between each cookie. Press a few extra chocolate chips on top.
  6. Bake: Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 10–12 minutes. The edges should be lightly golden while the centers remain soft and slightly underbaked.
  7. Finish with sea salt: Remove from the oven and immediately sprinkle a pinch of flaky sea salt on top for a sweet-salty contrast.
  8. Cool slightly and enjoy: Let the cookies rest for a few minutes on the baking sheet before transferring. Enjoy them warm while the chocolate is still gooey and melted.

Notes

Do not overbake—the cookies will continue to set as they cool. Chilling the dough is key for thick, bakery-style cookies.
